Montego Bay United bounced back to winning ways, snapped a three games winless run in the RSPL with a 1-0 win over Boys Town at Wespow Park on Sunday.
Owayne ‘Pond turtle’ Gordon scored arguably the goal of the season, a solo run from his own 18 yards box to finish with aplomb in the 61st minute to give us our first win in the second round and end a three games winless run that include a loss and two 0-0 draws.
We stayed two points behind leaders Portmore United, on 29 points but continue to lead in goals scored with 26 from 15 games played.
Our eighth win was achieved despite playing almost 65 minutes with just 10 men after wingback Dwayne Homes was sent off after punching a Boys Town player but the team rallied and held on for the win, extending out unbeaten streak at home against Boys Town to seven straight.
It was also the first win in his first home game for new coach Leonardo Neiva after taking charge of the tam in the 0-0 draw at Cavalier on Monday night.
We had some excellent chances in the first half but had to wait until the second half to finally get past the Boys town defence and goalkeeper Kirk Porter.
Teenager Yohann Weatherly who spent the last two years at the Philadelphia Union academy in the USA made a bright debut, coming on as a late game substitute and using his speed and close balls skills to set up two good chances, the second a nice combination with Dino Williams in the 83rd minute.
Weatherly’s pass found Williams in mid stride and his shot while falling away, came back off the right post and back to the grateful Porter who was beaten just outside his six yards box.
